  • Overview

This program is about Doberar and Damavand ski touring.  Damavand is 5671 meters and Doberar is a mountain ridge in Alborz Mountains. Damavand is the highest mountain of Iran with a cultural significance. It is part of Iranian mythology. In Shahname, the epic masterpiece of Iranian poetry, we read that an Iranian hero defines the border of Iran with an arrow thrown from this mountain. There are 16 routes to summit Damavand. The south face route is the most famous and the easiest one. Here we use this path as well.

On the other hand, Doberar is famous as one of the longest mountain ridges of Iran. It reaches “Namrod” river from east and “Haraz” river from west. The skiing routes are thorough the eastern face where we have Changiz Chal and Doberar peaks. There are other peaks in the area like Gole Zard and Angemar as well. Itinerary

Here is what happens on each day

Day 1: Arrival and Heading to Polour (2300m)

Now, the Doberar and Damavand Skiing program begins. Based on the time of participants’ arrival, we arrange the transfer. Then, we will head to Polour (2300m) in northeast of Tehran. The overnight will be at Polour mountaineering lodge or a local house in the area.

Day 2: Golezard Skiing (3750m)

Early in the morning after having breakfast, we drive to the trailhead in Gole Zard area (3750m). We will be ski touring here. After summiting, we will descend back and then transfer to Polour. The overnight will be at Polour mountaineering lodge or a local house in the area.  

Day 3: Angemar Skiing (4035m)

After breakfast and packing lunchboxes, we will head to the beginning of the skiing route for Angemar peak (4035m). There is a short drive ahead and then the ski touring begins.For the night, we will head back to the lodge or the local house.  

Day 4: Skiing in Changizchal (4020m)

On this day, we will head to Changizchal (4020m) . With a short drive, we will reach the trailhead and then the ski touring begins. The overnight is in the lodge or local house.  

Day 5: Skiing in Doberar (4250m)

This is the last day of skiing on Doberar mountain ridge, we will be heading for Doberar (4250m). We will have a short drive to the trailhead. Here, we had four days of ski touring in Doberar ridge that we can reduce or increase if the participants demand.  

Day 6: Heading to Bargah Sevom Shelter (4200m)

Now, It’s Damavand turn. First, there is a drive to Goosfandsara (3200m). Then, we have to ski tour to Barga Sevom Shelter (4200m) which will take around 4-5 hours. The overnight will be at the Bargah Sevom shelter.  

Day 7: Summiting Damavand (5610m)

Early in the morning, we began ski touring to Damavand, participants will ski down to Bargah Sevom Shelter and enjoy the rest of the day and night at the shelter.  

Day 8: Reserve Day

As it is the ski season, the weather might be quite unstable. So the participants must be prepared for any change of the weather. The reserve day is here for that purpose and can replace the summit day. Needless to say, during the whole adventure, the guide will prepare the meals.  

Day 9: Heading back to Tehran (1189m)

Eventually, the participants ski down to Gosfandsara for a transfer to local house or lodge and a drive back to Tehran and hotel.  

Day 10: Tehran City Tour (1189)

Enjoying the beauty of Iran’s nature, and after ascending the highest mountain of Iran, it is time to get to know Iran’s history, art, and architecture better. It is also a chance to see the everyday life of Iranian. In this day, we will visit four historic sites.  

Day 11: Departure

On this day, depending on the departing flight we will arrange a ride from hotel to IKA airport.
