Iran the country of diversity and distinction

Iran is a country in the Middle East. For long, the country has been famous for its history, nature and strategic location. The location is important because its a connection of west and east, a passage on the way of many conquerors. That is why many kings and queens  conquered Iran and it had around 1200 wars in its history. However, is also means that it has always been a way for caravans, travelers and explorers to pass from. Unfortunately, for many reasons, Iran is no longer a destination a lot of people would choose for traveling. International media lashing and lack of knowledge about the country are among these reasons.

On general, Iran is in the latitude of 25 to 40 degree north. Iran is filled with different natural phenomena like mountains, jungles, deserts, lakes and lagoons, sea and gulf and islands. Here we will discuss some of these natural phenomena. One of the beauties of Iran is Alamut valley, you can check out Alamut tour from Atours website and book Iran tour packages.

Iran Mountains

The main orogeny of Iran dates back to the Cenozoic Era. Here, mountains cover around 54 percent of the lands. The four mountain ranges of Shomali (North), Zagros, Markazi (Central) and Bakhtari (East) surround Iran like protective wall. As a result, they stop humidity from entering the central regions. The North and Zagros mountains have dense forests while the Central and East Mountain are rocky.  Iran’s mountains are famous for being high and yet relatively easy to climb. Damavand Summit (5671) in the Alborz is the highest mountain of Iran. Alamkuh (4848) and Sabalan (4811) are in turn the second and third highest mountains.

Iran Deserts

Around one fourth of Iran is Desert. It covers more than 350 thousands km. The Deserts of Iran divide into four categories of Markazi (Central), Koochak (Small), Rig Jen, and Lut. UNESCO registered Lut desert as a World Natural Heritage. The highest recorded temperature of the  world (70.3 degree Celsius) was from here as well. The desert plants like Nabkha, the Kalouts (Yardang), the Salt Polygons, and the culture of people of desert outskirts are its main attractions.

Iran Jungles and Forests

Although Iran is an arid country, it doesn’t lack greenery. The Jungles of Iran are divided to five zones of Hyrcannian, Zagros, Iran-o-Turani, Persian Gulf Coast (Mangrove), and Arasbaran. Each of the jungles enjoy special flora and fauna that makes them unique and  beautiful. Hyrcannian Jungle is South of Caspian Sea and North of Alborz Mountain Range. The Irano-o-Turani Jungle is the greenery of the central Iran. Zagros is on the foothills of a mountain in the west of Iran. The coast of Persian Gulf is host to the Mangrove Forest, and the Northwest of Iran is where we have Arasbaran.

These are just part of the natural phenomena of Iran. There are many more things to know that we will give more information about in other posts of our blog.
